Renewable energy fund for farmers launched
Sep 15, 2011
A new fund has been launched to help farmers install renewable energy equipment on their land.
Research has found that more than a third of all farmers in the UK want to install renewable sources on their land, with 80% recognising that renewable energy can save costs and 60% seeing it as an additional form of income.
The loan fund is being provided by Barclays, and the bank expects that the majority of the projects will be solar panels or wind farms as these are the cheapest to build. The fund has an unlimited budget, with the first £100million available expected to support well over 100 projects.
It’s not just owners of large amounts of land who can benefit from installing renewable energy sources. Homeowners can fit renewable energy equipment such as solar panels and heat pumps to their homes to cut domestic energy bills and even as an additional income.
Many people believe that the costs of installing the equipment can be too expensive, but due to the government’s range of renewable energy grants homeowners can get help with installation costs so they can afford to fit the equipment and start saving money on their energy bills.
