Peregrines, Buzzards, Ravens (nesting).
ARCHAEOLOGY
Castlerigg Stone Circle (owned by the National Trust) has been grazed by the Cockbain family for over 80 years. Many examples of ridge and furrow cultivation system.

2 very large barns (both renovated within the ESA scheme) 1 estimated to be c.1700 and 1 to be 1870’s.
GEOLOGY
Rakefoot is located on very deep rock; Edinburgh Geological Survey has inserted earthquake sensors in this rock which pick up earthquake information from around the world and transmit it to Edinburgh.
SOIL TYPE(S)
Sandy loam; some clay. There is blanket bog in the SSSI.
INCOME AND PAYMENTS
Land and environmental management provides a substantial proportion of farm income, alongside income derived from livestock.
The Cumbria Fells and Dales Leader + programme is based at Voluntary Action Cumbria and is part-financed by the European Agriculture Guidance and Guarantee Fund of the European Union and the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs. This project is part of a trans-national project with Gévaudan Leader + Programme, Lozère, France.
